Cleaning and Maintenance

Revolver

  1. Remove cylinder (single action) or swing out cylinder (double action)

  2. General inspection of cylinder, frame and barrel

  3. Run a bore snake through the barrel saturated in cleaner/solvent several times

  4. Run patch until clean

  5. Spray cylinder with solvent

  6. Run bore snake or brush through each chamber

  7. Run patch until clean

  8. Wipe all solvent

  9. Lubricate frame parts(hand, cylinder lock, gate)

  10. Lubricate cylinder parts(ejector, ejector rod, cylinder release)

  11. Reassemble.  Wipe down entire firearm

  12. Function check

Pistol (Semi Auto)

  1. ​Remove Slide from Frame

  2. General inspection of slide, frame and barrel

  3. Disassemble Slide (remove barrel and recoil spring)

  4. Spray Slide and Frame with solvent

  5. Run bore snake or brush through barrel with solvent several times

  6. Use cleaning brush to remove residue from recoil spring and inside slide

  7. Use cleaning brush to remove residue from frame components, barrel channel and mag well

  8. Run patch until clean

  9. Wipe solvent from slide, barrel and recoil spring

  10. Wipe solvent from frame components and mag well

  11. Apply lube to recoil spring, outside barrel and barrel link

  12. Assemble slide. Lube slide rails

  13. Lube frame surfaces where slide is in contact with frame

  14. Attach slide to frame.  Cycle Firearm

  15. Wipe outside of firearm 

  16. Function Check

Rifle

  1. Depress bolt release and remove bolt. (Bolt Action Rifle)

  2. Depress take down pin, open action, remove charging handle and bolt carrier group (AR Style)

  3. General Inspection

  4. Spray inside receiver with solvent

  5. Run a bore snake soaked in solvent or a cleaning rod with brush several times through the bore

  6. Spray bolt or bolt carrier group with solvent.  Clean with stiff brush over surfaces.

  7. Brush solvent inside receiver

  8. Run patch through barrel until clean

  9. Clean solvent from receiver with a rag or wipes until clean

  10. Wipe solvent from bolt or bolt carrier group.  Inspect if extractor moves freely

  11. Lubricate bolt or bolt carrier group at bolt face and cover all surfaces with a light coat of oil.  If present lube charging handle.

  12. Place bolt or bolt carrier back into the receiver.

  13. Work the bolt back and forth to check for binding

  14. Wipe outside of firearm

  15. Function Check
