Why Do Progressive Liberal Socialist Democrats Hate Guns?

I will be starting my 4th year as a refugee from the Socialist State of NY. Despite all the firearm restrictions in my former state I was able to purchase several pistols and long guns, but the hoops I had to jump through and the fees I had to pay were substantial and the process long. Since I left, NY it has gotten much worse and more restrictive to be a firearms owner. Now background checks are required even for ammo purchases.
It seems the ProgLibSocDemCommies (I added that last descriptor recently) never give up a chance to limit a citizen's natural right to defend themselves. Prior to 2022, New York was a "may issue" state as long as the applicant could show "proper cause" for possession of a hand gun. The process cost hundreds of dollars in application fees, fingerprints, notarized endorsements from non-relatives and months of time. Obviously the "shall not be infringed" clause of the 2nd Amendment was being ignored by the powers that be in NY.
Nevertheless, I went through the process and was able to get a Pistol Permit, but only for use at an established range. It was only for pistols that a permit was necessary because of the concealability factor. You still needed to go through "background checks" for all other firearms purchases which is the norm.
To answer the question "Why do ProgLibSocDemCommies Hate Guns" relates to a basic characteristic of all ProgLibSocDemCommies -- They want POWER! The United States is one of the few countries in the world where the RIGHT to BEAR ARMS is ingrained in our founding documents. Why? Because we had to fight our way out of being English Colonies.
The POWER belongs to We the People. The U.S. has the highest civilian gun ownership rate globally, with approximately 120.5 firearms per 100 people. The Second Amendment constitutionally protects the right to bear arms, with minimal federal restrictions compared to other nations. Many states allow concealed and open carry with varying levels of regulation, and background checks are not universally required for private sales.
The U.S. has an estimated 393 million civilian-owned firearms, reflecting a strong gun culture. Switzerland is a distant second with about 27.6–41.2 firearms per 100 people, driven by a cultural tradition of marksmanship and militia service.
Firearms are a threat to the ProgLibSocDemCommies because the average everyday citizen can defend their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness without relying on anybody else but themselves. If you decide to be a firearms owner, and more important decide to carry a firearm, you have assumed responsibility for yourself and your family's safety and security.
Reliance, dependence and learned helplessness is the calling card of the ProgLibSocDemCommies. That is because they think they are smarter, more enlightened and politically correct than you. In essense, the ProgLibSocDemCommies THINK they are better than you.
History has shown what happens between groups of people where one group thinks it is "better" than others. The group of "betterers" will strive to overcome all other groups through manipulation, persuasion, policy or outright dominance. The tell-tale sign that a group is seeking dominance of another is that the "Betterer" group will attempt to seize all privately owned firearms. This concentrates power in a solitary group. Equality tends to get thrown out over time. There is a quote attributed to Samuel Colt that addresses this.
Here are some examples of how groups faired when they disarmed:
In the United States widespread disarmament of the Native American tribes resulted in massacres of the native population, most notably at Wounded Knee
During the Civil War surrendering Union Troops at Fort Pillow, Tennessee were killed by Confederate Calvary under the command of Nathan Bedford Forest (early leader of the Ku Klux Klan). Over half of the troops at Fort Pillow were Black Union soldiers.
In the 20th Century one of the most extreme examples was the massacre of 200,000 to 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers by the Imperial Japanese Army in the event known as "the Rape of Nanking".
But other than war time the most egregious widespread death and destruction occurred during the 20th Century under the totalitarian regimes of Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, The Ottoman Empire, and Communist China.
For a deep dive into the millions of people killed by totalitarian regimes see The Black Book of Communism. In every time, before the genocide took place, one of the first things done was confiscation of privately owned firearms. Whenever the state has sole access for use of force, bad things happen.
